RE: iPhone vs. TyTN II Kaiser (aka AT&T Tilt), which came out on top?
Excellent review of the TyTN II over at 5thirtyone.com . Even with all its bells, whistles and gobs of hardware features it is still hampered by the OS.
He sums it up quite well:
“After roughly one month of use, I was reminded that despite all of the bells and whistles, even the most feature laden devices are made or broken by the operating system in which they are powered by. A well designed operating system will embrace and enhance hardware features, while the opposite muddles the user experience negating all of the bells and whistles that sold the device in the first place.”

I have had an iPhone, and I returned it to AT&T and went back to my Treo 650.
The ability to call a phone number after doing a map/google search was OLD news for me.
Sure, the GUI is nice, real nice, but I need more than a thin-client phone (a phone that requires an internet connection for real functionality).
I am in areas with NO GSM coverage as part of my job. Not being able to install software on my phone makes it pretty much an iTouch without wi-fi. I don’t want an iPod, I want a smartphone.
I download map apps and data to my phone, and I can use them even with no GSM signal.
While my example likely does not affect you if you do not leave NYC (or other well-covered area), try the iPhone for 3 days with no GSM service and then tell me which OS hampers the functionality of the device…
