101 Common Sense Management Tips
I found this nice little piece over at businessintelligencelowdown.com on the not so common, common-sense management tips.
Some that I can definitely testify to:
“21. Do quality work; what matters is not the fact that you spend more than 12 hours at the office every day, but the results you have to show for those long work days. Measure your output, not the time expended, in doing tasks.”
“28. Know your limitations – both in your time and your abilities. Assume responsibility only for those things that you can do and learn to say a firm no to unreasonable demands on your time.”
“40. Be flexible but firm in your dealings. There’s a thin line between the two and good managers know how where to draw it.”
and
“94. Dreams alone are not enough, you have to work to make them come true. Chart out a course of action that will get you closer to your goal each day.”
94 is a big one for me and a lot of people I know. Everyone has great, creative and innovative ideas to share and bestow on the world, but that will only stay idea’s unless you take the steps necessary to materialize them into your own reality.
I know it seems like a “big” task for certain things and it just seems too big of a deal at times but the biggest part is just STARTING it. Start it and chip away a little bit at a time until you get closer and closer to your goals. This is exactly what happened with SugarStats, I had the idea and designed it in my head a good 6-8 months and never did anything about it.
I just kept putting it off: “Its too big a project” I thought. “I won’t have time” I said. But I kept getting the signs to move forward until one day I just started it. One thing at a time… Now, 9 months later and a new programming language learned from scratch later I have a project thats ready for BETA launch. How about that, wadda ya know?
So keep at it, one step at a time and at the very least START the project.
P.S Stay tuned for my iMac review, all I can say so far is that its AWESOME! I’ve also recently sold my Qtek 9100 (still the most popular post on my blog) and I’ll tell you all about what I’m replacing it with
.
