Web 2.0 for your health? SugarStats: Online Bloodsugar Management

After a few hours setting up the default page, I’m happy to announce that www.sugarstats.com is finally up. What is SugarStats? Well if you’ve kept up with the blog I’ve dropped a few hints as to the ruby on rails project I’ve been working on. I guess the best way would be to take the description off the website:
“SugarStats makes it simple for you to easily manage, monitor and share your blood sugar glucose levels online so that you can take better control of your diabetes.”
I’ve been working on SugarStats for the past few months with an excellent team and it has been really great. I initially built it just as an application for myself as I was just not liking most of the other options available. After seeing the great interest others had shown for it I have since been working on bringing SugarStats to the next step into turning it into a full blown, scalable web application for the masses.
As to take a step away from the typical diabetic management software, SugarStats isn’t meant to keep every minute detail about diabetic management but more so focus on blood sugar management, the elements that affect blood sugar and offering the most essential information and trends in a easy to use interface. The main aspects of SugarStats are going to be:
- Tracking blood sugar levels, medication intake, food consumption and physical activity
- Viewable trends, graphs and essential statistics over several different timeframes
- An easy to use interface to this information from any modern web browser and a number of mobile devices such as PDA’s and mobile phones.
- Easily share this information with your friends, family and health care professional
- Along with many more features planned for the initial public release.
As the online diabetic management market is practically non-existent, this is going to be a huge step. Some other great news is we’re talking with interested investors who see value in our vision and hopefully we can create a strong partnership to further rapid development.
So I’ll be writing about the startup, development and deployment process of SugarStats over the next few months here, stay tuned.
