Upgrading to the newest MDA Vario, Qtek 9100, HTC Wizard or Cingular 8125 ROM
I’ve recently upgraded my firmware to the latest official release from Qtek. This ROM is Push-Email enabled version 2.17.7.2 WWE, Radio Version 02.07.10 and protocol 413.1.03. I have to say its quite fast and much more stable.
If you want this ROM you can download it here: (this is for the Qtek and is World-Wide English (WWE) but if you browse around the FTP you’ll find many other versions in many languages for different devices)
ftp://xda:xda@xda-developers.com/
The upgrade process is quite simple. The ROM files and updater are combined into one so its one main 48-50MB .exe file. Simple connect the device with active sync and execute the program. It’ll take you through a few confirmation screens then to the main upgrade which takes around 10-12 minutes. It then soft-resets and then runs through the customized ExtROM installation.
I like the new ROM quite a bit overall, there is one thing that kind of bugs me: They put in a new battery indicator on the today screen which they placed in the top right corner (it used to be on the bottom right). Not only is the placement bad (that is valuable realestate especially if you have multiple 3rd party apps) but the new indicator doesn’t really tell you accurately any info about the battery. In the old icon which showed a battery, it had 4 green bars which would each represent 25%. This new one is divided into 2 bars and is larger so it take more space than necessary. I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but thats what I have to note at the moment.
