Qtek 9100 performance update #2
A small update to my last post on upgrading my Qtek 9100 Pocket PC Phone with a new ROM flash. I’ve successfully flashed it with the following new ROM info:
ROM Version: 1.6.7.1 WWE
ROM Date: 11/28/2005
Radio Version: 01.12.10
Protocol Version: 4.0.13.23
ExtROM Version: 1.6.7.101
Impressions
The thing is FAST now, VERY fast. Its really night and day when I compare it. There is no lag and everything opens up very fast. Now alot of this is due to the hard reset required for the ROM reflash, but I’ve hard reset it before and it wasn’t this fast. Also it didn’t come out of the box this fast either. I think this new ROM does alot to help the performance and speed. Of course I won’t know for SURE if the speed stays for a few weeks of regular use, after which I’ll update again.
It was great to use before, but now its ever better! If you’re considering a Pocket PC phone I highly recommend get one of these!

Where does one get a ROM update. Mine is from Sept 05 and slow is one of the problems I hear this fixes.
Hey Bryan,
I think you’ll find all the information you need over at the xda-forums. I found all my info there and they’re multiple threads that explain getting new ROM’s and upgrading your device. Check it out here:

Also over at HowardForums here:

I’ve been using my Qtek for a few weeks with the new ROM and it is still pretty snappy. Hope that helps, good luck!
[...] If you are looking at one of these, I’d have to say upgrading the ROM will make a big performance and usability difference. You can check out my findings regarding the ROM upgrades for these Windows Mobile 5 phones over at Marston Online [...]
This is really interesting… I have heard the same of the SP5 as well as some registry hacks with really do speed up these phones. I think that these ROMs are not fixing hardware related issues but Windows Mobile 5 related latency.
Just my 2 cents
Are you, by any chance, on T-Mobile?
I have a Qtek 9100 from T-Mobile (they call it MDA Vario) and I’ve been meaning to update the firmware seeing mine is also from Sept 05 and is, sometimes, very slow. Do you know if there are any problems in doing this?
Also, do you think you could possibly provide this firmware? I can’t seem to be able to find it anywhere (not even on QTek’s website).
Tks,
