So I’ll be in the air in a few hours, racking up my continental frequent flier miles. Looks like an intensive week of meetings regarding SugarStats and moving forward, but I foresee a good outcome.

I’ve been having some massive all-nighters lately and have just had an amazing amount of productive coding done. I gotta tell ya, sometimes I feel like I’m most productive when I’m traveling. I was able to complete the initial Graphing and Trends sections, these produce maps based on the timeframe selected for sugar readings, medication, food intake and physical activity. I’ve been able to implement some really great graphs using the Gruff Graphs Ruby lib from Geoffrey Grosenbach. If you’re out there, thanks Geff, an excellent compliment to this app!

The Missing Sync 2.5 finally out, supports WM5

Wow, how long did this take? Amazing. When I first got my Qtek, they had already been working on it for almost a year, now its almost a year later and its finally out. So hopefully they worked out all the bugs within those 2 years of dev. I’m so used to NOT syncing my calendar that I’m almost afraid this will seem like an overly alien process… Well not really, I can’t wait!
So I will be shelling out the $39.99 to get it and you can expect a full review on how it all works with my Powerbook 12” G4 and Qtek 9100.

Shifting Timezones & Working Efficiently
Posted on July 20, 2006

I’ve read / heard many different productivity boosting tricks and tips over the years about working when you’re most efficient, when you’re “in the zone”. This is something I can definitely attest to. Personally, I work the best when in the late night hours when no one is around to distract me and I can focus completely on what I’m doing.
As my trip to San Diego is a week away, this is actually going to help me greatly as one of the biggest deals when flying almost to the exact other point on the planet is jet lag. Its crazy what a 9hr time change will do to you, talk about “back to the future”.
So when I do have to travel, I start about a week ahead of my flight to “reprogram” my clock and start shifting my timezones internally. Staying up at night here means its I’m staying up in the day there. I plan my flight to leave here in the morning. Then 3 to 5 days before the flight, I go to bed a few hours later … 2am, 3am, 4am etc. The last 2 or 3 days I pull some all nighters and sleep in the day. Then once I get on the plane I’m out and when I wake up in my connection somewhere in the east / mid-west I’m fairly rested and can better adjust to my new west-coast time zones.
Works every time.

A small trip to the U.S, big possibilities

So I will be taking a trip out of Holland in a few weeks over to the west coast. Though its been insanely hot and humid here, I hear its no better there. The good news is among attending some seminars in San Diego, I will be holding some meetings with possible investors for SugarStats. With a great proposal already presented to me, I’m liking it more and more and want to finish up with some final things in person. If all goes well we should be on our way to a more rapid development of SugarStats and getting it out even quicker!
Besides the seminar and handling some business, I’m extending it a bit to visit friends and family I haven’t seen in a while. It will be great to have a chance to relax, no doubt though I’m sure I will spend a fare amount of my free time cranking out some code for the graphing system for SugarStats.
