This is freakin awesome! The 1997 keynote speech from Steve Jobs right at the time he rejoined Apple and basically turned it around.
Its great to see their strategy then and how their vision manifested into reality and made it the great company it is today. From the time everyone thought it was dead to 1 billion (yes with a B) in profits. Crazy. Check it out.

Qtek 9100 802.11G Wireless 1.6.7.1 ROM issue update

So in regards to my previous post about my Qtek 9100 ROM upgrade and its issues with 802.11G connectivity, I think I may have found a solution. A few actually. This works for some, but not all:
1) In the wireless settings, under Power Mode, set it for full performance. Some have said this has worked for them, I havn’t 100% verified this, but I can say it has increased wireless performance. Some say it hasn’t done anything for them, give it a shot.
2) There is a thread over at Howard Forums that details some registry hacks you can do to simply turn on 802.11G support. How cool is that? Check it out here:

Its not too hard and many report it works great! Good luck all.

New Upgrade: 20Mbit Wanadoo ADSL

This morning we had a very pleasant upgrade in the workspace: 20Mbit Wanadoo ADSL. A very welcome step up from the old 1Mbit Tiscali setup. It is, in a word, FAST, but of course. I even got the nice, frosty white Wanadoo Box with the glowing “W”, it is quite slick.
The service advertises 20Mbit/s download and 1Mbit/s upload speeds. I havn’t had too much time, but I have been able to run a few speed tests. The results a pretty good, not 20Mbit’s as advertised of course but still a good improvement. In the local area of Holland and Europe I was able to get around 1500k/s – 2000k/s (Around 8-13Mbit/s) down and 80k/s – 150k/s (Around 1Mbit/s) upload.
Downloads/Uploads take a little hit when going across the “Big Pond” they call the Atlantic. I got around 700k/s – 1200k/s (Around 6Mbit/s) down and 60k/s – 120k/s up to the Eastcoast and slightly less to the westcoast. Since my servers sit on the east coast at NAC, I’m quite happy with 6Mbit’s to New Jersey. Now I just have to get some local Dutch servers (Which are on the way)
Soon we’ll be rocking 50-100Mbit/s like Korean. One day it will be mine, oh yes, one day it will be mine.

Why the MacBook Pro is missing FireWire 800

I hear alot of people whining about the few features that are “missing” on the new Apple laptop and how some see it as “One step forward, two steps back”. Like for instance, excluding Firewire 800.
Here is a direct quote from David Moody, Apple Senior Vice President:
“Apple vice president David Moody confirmed in a briefing this afternoon, that Apple thought the best way to provide performance and flexibility was not to include FireWire 800 as a fixed port on the models.Instead, with 2 Gbps of bandwidth from the slot, an ExpressCard could, for instance, offer two simultaneous FireWire 800 ports that could run at full speed. This could support an extremely fast set of RAID 0 (striped) disks, for instance, with four disks being striped in an A, B, C, D fashion for a total throughput of 1.6 Gbps, limited only by the disks%u2019 read and write speeds.”
As for the missing 8x DL Superdrives, they had to work with what they had. Take into account they moved over from ATA to the SATA interface and the number of super-slim, slot-loading rewriters is limited. I’m sure they were working the best with what they could get in order to make this happen in time for MacWorld.

Productivity tip: 10 x 10 is better than 1 x 100

A great post over at the 37signals blog gives a great tip on helping further productivity in completing to-do lists, especially when they’re of considerable length. I can concur, this technique really helps me out along. Simplified structure gives such an easier approach to task completion and increases (atleast in my case) productivity greatly.
