Before & After Macrobiotics
A few personal observations about the change in my life since embracing Macrobiotics. How it change my life, my body and my mind.
So now it is two weeks later, I have successfully completed Level I of the Kushi Institute macrobiotic training; How was it? Let me say this: It was probably the best experiences and choices I have ever had or made in my life. It was amazing, everything, the people, the food, the teachers, the location… It all just fell into its place.
Before I started I wouldn’t say I was in bad shape, I ate fairly well. I had tried going vegetarian before, but for only around 3 months. After that phase I basically just added in chicken and fish. That continued for a few years, but it never seemed quite…balanced. Enter 3 weeks ago: My mother whom is doing the same training in the states tells how much superb results she’s been having. She had been on high blood-pressure meds and had alot of fatigue. But since balancing out here diet and eating a mainly whole grain/plant based diet she had improved dramatically. She could cut her meds as things in her body started to balance and she had much more energy. So of course I was interested, I did some research and ordered a few books.
So in the first week or two, I thought I was doing well. But after this training I see I was doing it far from optimal. Using way too much salt, over cooking, over eating, over consuming liquids etc. But it was mainly brown rice and miso/vegetable soup. After 2 days I was amazed, I could FEEL the difference in my body, I could feel the changes. Something happened to me that has never happened before, my bloodsugar became so stable that I had to reduce my insulin by more than HALF. Simply by changing my diet, consuming mostly whole grains and plant based foods, my body was harmonizing and balancing out. So I did even more research and found the Kushi Institute was holding their 6th annual summer conference in the south holland only about 1hr away from me.
I was exposed to a whole new world, I learned all about the philisophical meanings behind the cooking. The different effect of foods, balancing those effects and most important I learned WHY. A notebook and a half of notes later, here I am. I met some wonderful people along the way and had a great time.
Before I was just average, now I feel completely different. My energy has increased, I feel lighter, less dense. My muscles feel fueled and tone. My vision has improved greatly. My blood sugar has stablized and I can truely say I’m on my way to further healing my body and releasing myself from diabetes.
So much more info to come, I’m not sure where this will lead me next. I love cooking and could really see me being a chef. Perhaps I’ll take levels 2-4 at the Kushi Institute in Amsterdam. We shall see.
