This is one of my older books, I got it around 6-7 years ago when I really started freelancing and roaming into the land of business and being an entrepreneur. I guess you could say I liked the title and judge it by the cover
What I liked
The two authors, Sarah and Paul Edwards are a very dynamic couple and they are of course what bring the book together. I found the text to be very inspiring and uplifting, yet practical and informational at the same time. This is something very important for me as I get tired of books quite easily. I think the winning point is that the writing style comes off very personal, and I like that.
In one chapter they explain the 80/20 theory in which you need to prioritize what you do because when you don’t, most times 80% of what you do create 20% of the results you want. They explain what to do to make things more efficient by doing 20% of the things that will generate 80% of your wanted results. There is also a large section that takes you basically through the emotional roller coaster that comes with self-employment and moving from the supposedly “secure” lifestyle of paycheck based jobs.
One other very great thing about the book is it is littered with brilliant quotes from various insightful people.
Book Summary
They covered pretty much all the general topics of being self-employed that you could want and offered great advice in each area to further ones success. The book holds a strong note about staying in the game, hanging on and is almost like a personal coach to get you through the bad parts of the business and what to do in such situations. They go over various topics such as:
- Developing self-confidence
- Dealing with your fears, uncertainty and doubts
- How to self-employment around your lifestyle
- What to expect when starting out
- Creating support systems to help you grow
- Being taken seriously
- Advice on loans, advisor’s, government and other education
- How to handle your weaknesses and strengths
- Motivation
I enjoyed the book thoroughly and do recommend it to those wanting to get their start in self-employment.

So I’ve added another category here. Throughout the years I’ve re-inforced my belief in the power of knowledge and infomation towards bettering one’s self and growing. I read as much as I can now-a-days and decided to give a few brief reviews and perhaps recommendations the books I’ve read over the past 4-5 years.
And even more so you can expect some good reviews coming up as I’ve gone Amazon crazy and ordered over 30 books from them in the past month. Mostly business, marketing, personal development, organizational, entrepreneurship and freelance based. I’ll probably end up throwing in some reviews on my other hobbies such as metaphysics, quantum physics, health, macrobiotics, hawaiian massage, web design, technology, tech novels, programming etc. Stay tuned.

So I’ve added a new source of info to my life, I’ve just subscribed to a 6 month term for Treehouse Magazine. It is a Web based PDF magazine geared towards web developers and creative professionals:
“Treehouse is a monthly web development PDF magazine put together by the people behind Particletree.
Treehouse provides web designers, programmers and entrepreneurs a creative home and outlet for the latest news, trends and techniques from the best in the industry.”
I d/l the free October edition and found it to be of very nice quality. We’ll see how the rest are, I’ll give some updates.

Mail issues after 10.4.3 update for OS X

I use OS X’s mail app exclusively, after updated to 10.4.3 things were a bit weird. Non of my rules worked anymore and I could not add or edit new ones. Very frustrating. After some digging I found th culprit is the 3ed party addon “MailTags”
To fix the issue either delete/disable MailTags or Download the update to it.
