Attack of the web standards CMS Solutions

I’ve been playing around with various CMS’s to customize website around lately. Even though it base is in blogging I like Wordpress the best so far. I just wish it was a bit faster, like lightpress. Better database abstraction would make a WORLD of difference.
I especially like the template system in Wordpress (probably because I’ve spent time to understand it.) Its my choice for personal site or sites with less than say 25-50 pages…but 50 is pushing it. However, lightpress is making great progress and integrating many new features by the day. I will keep my eye out.
As for larger, more business based CMS’s I am exploring Mambo type systems, specifically Joomla. It looks decent, the performance looks decent and there seems to be a big support community. I just really don’t like their templating engine. Of course my initial preference was a web standards based XHTML/CSS CMS template system. Joomla claims to be moving in that direction. Of course that has brought me to solutions such as PMachine too. Even though it looks like a great solution I would like to do more exploration with it and review various free alternatives.
Wordpress is in (perhaps lightpress too), we’ll see what the other solution will be to complete the package…stay tuned.

Adult ADHD: 50 Tips on Management

I found this great article about ADHD management and it just completely clicked with me. This is the interesting part:
- I’ve never been diagnoses with ADHD
- None of my family or friends has brought it up.
- No doctor or therapist has ever suggested it
Yet as I read this list I can apply over 50% of the things on it to my daily life. Especially the structure, color coding, depression after success at times, fear of success. I am always doing 10 things at the exact same time with no real focus yet I am constantly forgetting to do simple tasks around the house (much to my ladies dismay) because of no priority system. Since implementing various methods of structure in my life I have effectively increased my productivity 100%.
I now use color-code post its, have a system for “getting things done”, walk around with a small note pad and paper, frequently use my calendar and such for tasks and events. I must say also that since starting my Macrobiotic diet I have improved greatly as well. I’m not sure if this is to say I need to be strapped down and medicated, but I just saw the relationships I saw in this list interesting. It might be useful for those with similar symptoms and would like to increase their productivity.

The Kinkless GTD system

Being a recent Omni Outliner 3 (OO3) convert myself, I’ve found it amazing. Also adapting the GTD system to help structure my projects and life, this kinkless GTD system seems to nicely integrate the 2 in a pleasing fashion.
“Essentially, KGTD is a single OmniOutliner document with some fiddly bits (ok, we can call them “buttons” if you are going to get all technical) that allow you to manage two views of your GTD tasks: projects and actions. You can archive completed projects to get them out of the way, and it should all look lovely in whatever colors and fonts you choose.”
Definitely check this out if you’re a OO3 fan and want to integrate the GTD system better in it.

Writeboard

The guys over at 37signals have a new web app out, its called Writeboard.
“Writeboard is a web-based writing tool. It lets you simply write, share, revise, and compare text. With Writeboard you can write solo or collaborate with as many people as you’d like. Writeboard isn’t about heavy text formatting, or WYSIWYG, it’s about the text itself. The words on the page.”

It integrates with backpack as well which is pretty handy. I definitely like the simplicity, but that seems to be the theme with the other products from them. I also see you don’t need an account, you just label your board, enter a password for it and your email. Simple. I’ll have to look more into this, especially handy when proofreading docs for my web clients.
